Comments

Amstetten's 50 Heller notgeld from 1920 belongs to the tail end of Austria's municipal emergency currency wave — by this point the postwar hyperinflationary pressure had made small-denomination coinage functionally useless, and hundreds of towns were printing their own scrip out of necessity rather than civic pride. C. Queiser was a local Amstetten printer, not a specialist banknote firm, which accounts for the modest production quality typical of these provincial issues.

Three signatories is unusual for a note this small — Kubista, Millerbacher, and Resch likely represented separate municipal offices, a bureaucratic formality that outlasted the currency itself.
