The denomination '50 Heller' is set in bold blackletter type at the upper left, with the notation '2. Auflage.' (Second Issue) at the upper right; the main text block, in blackletter script, states the municipality's guarantee of redemption between 15 and 31 March 1921, followed by a counterfeiting warning, the place and date of issue, and the mayor's name. Palting-Perwang is a small rural parish in the Innviertel, the strip of Upper Austria that only became Austrian in 1779 — ceded by Bavaria under the Treaty of Teschen. That regional identity never fully dissolved, and the area's cultural and economic ties to Bavaria remained strong into the twentieth century. This 50 Heller Notgeld was issued in 1920, when the postwar collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monetary system forced hundreds of Austrian municipalities to print their own emergency small change, coins having vanished almost entirely from circulation.
Printed by Josef Moser in nearby Braunau am Inn — the same market town where Hitler was born in 1889, though that connection carries no relevance here — the note bears the signature of Bürgermeister K. Voggenberger.
