| Opmerkingen |
Oftering is a small village in the Linz-Land district, and its municipal notgeld issue belongs to the enormous wave of Austrian small-change emergency currency that flooded the country between 1919 and 1922. The collapse of the Habsburg monetary system after 1918 left communities at every level — down to parishes and market towns — scrambling to cover the absence of circulating coins. Oftering's solution was unremarkable in type but locally authorized: the municipality stamp was the only security feature separating a valid note from a forgery, a thin barrier by any measure.
The 0706a designation in the Jaksch catalog indicates this is the first recorded type for the denomination from this issuer. Many such village-level pieces survive only in small quantities, having been redeemed and destroyed once coin circulation normalized.
