A Kriegsnotgeld or postwar local emergency issue from Kroisbach, a small commune in what is now Austria. These hyper-local heller denominations were a direct response to the coin shortage that gripped the former Habsburg territories after 1918 — municipal and commercial issuers printed their own small-change substitutes when the central monetary system effectively collapsed.
Kroisbach's issues are among the more obscure commune-level notgeld, with survival rates dependent almost entirely on collector redemptions at the time rather than any systematic archiving.
