Obverse description Half-length figure of a woman, interpreted as a mermaid or coastal spirit, depicted facing right upon a shoreline, raising a conch shell to her lips as if sounding it. The figure is rendered in a detailed relief against a plain field. The legend REPUBLIQUE D'HAÏTI arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script, with a beaded border encircling the design.

Reverse description The Haitian coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a palm tree flanked by symmetrically arranged cannon, cannonballs, and flags, with a ribbon scroll below bearing the motto L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE. The legend LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 50 GOURDES and the date 1973 are inscribed in the lower field. A beaded border frames the entire design.
