The Banque Nationale de la République d'Haïti relied almost exclusively on the American Bank Note Company throughout the mid-twentieth century, a dependency rooted in Haiti's financial ties to the United States following the 1915–1934 occupation, during which American interests effectively controlled the national bank. This note falls within a long-running series that spans thirteen years, suggesting reorders rather than a single print run — not unusual for a low-volume currency where plate wear and reserve stock timing drove production irregularly.
The 50 Gourdes was a high denomination for everyday Haitian commerce in this period, given prevailing wage levels. Circulated examples frequently show heavy tropical wear; cotton substrate helps, but humidity took its toll.
