Haiti's 1950 was politically charged: President Dumarsais Estimé had just been ousted in a military coup led by Paul Magloire the same year this note was issued. The Banque Nationale continued functioning through the transition, and this series went ahead under Waterlow & Sons — the London firm that had handled Haitian currency contracts for decades by this point.
Waterlow's involvement with Haiti long predated this issue, though the firm's reputation had taken a serious blow after the Peruvian bond scandal of the 1930s. By 1950 they were still a credible security printer, but the company wound down and was absorbed by De La Rue in 1961.
