| Obverse description | Printed in brown and black on cream paper, the note carries the denomination numeral '50' in each corner within ornate typographic frames, flanked by two oval landscape vignettes — the left with a classical building set against alpine scenery, the right with a lakeside dwelling before a mountain backdrop. The central text panel presents the issuer's name in Gothic letterpress above the bearer clause and the bold denomination 'FÜNFZIG FRANKEN', with the place and date 'Altdorf, den 1. März 1878' below. Three signature lines for the Verwalter, Präsident, and Buchhalter appear in the lower central area, with 'EMISSION LIT. A.' along the bottom margin. |

The Ersparniss-Cassa des Kantons Uri was one of the smaller cantonal savings institutions empowered to issue paper currency under Switzerland's pre-federal banking arrangements. Uri, among the least populous cantons, generated correspondingly modest note circulation — which is precisely why survivors from this issuer are so rarely encountered today. The 1878 date places this issue just a few years before the Swiss National Bank's eventual monopoly over note issuance began consolidating the field.
Pick 549 is poorly documented in most references, and authenticated examples seldom appear at auction.
