Obverse description The large denomination numeral '50' dominates the upper field, with the spelled-out legend 'CINQUANTE FRANCS' below in two lines. At lower left, the Rwandan coat of arms is depicted — a shield flanked by crossed spears and flags, bearing the national motto 'LIBERTÉ-COOPÉRATION-PROGRÈS' and the inscription 'REPUBLIQUE RWANDAISE' within the shield. To the right, an olive branch with berries extends vertically into the upper field. The word 'ESSAI' (pattern) appears in small lettering at the lower left of the field. The entire design is framed by a decorative border of stylised rectangular links.
Obverse script Latin

Reverse description A naturalistic sprig of tea plant (Camellia sinensis) is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, rendered with detailed foliage. The circular legend 'BANQUE NATIONALE DU RWANDA' curves around the upper periphery, while the date '1977' appears at the base of the design, flanked by small decorative marks. The rim is bordered by the same decorative chain-link pattern as the obverse.
