Reverse description The imperial coat of arms of the French Empire occupies the central field: a shield charged with the Napoleonic eagle displayed, set within an elaborately mantled heraldic composition draped with an ermine-lined cloak and surmounted by the imperial crown with a cross finial. Two allegorical figures serve as supporters to either side. The denomination 50 FR. is inscribed in large numerals flanking the lower portion of the shield, with the mint mark and date appearing in the exergue. The circumferential legend EMPIRE FRANCAIS arcs along the upper border within a beaded rim.
