Obverse description Bold right-facing effigy of President Léon Mba occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with finely detailed facial features and close-cropped hair. The portrait is truncated at the neck and positioned slightly left of centre. The upper legend reads PRESIDENT LEON MBA, arcing around the upper rim, while REPUBLIQUE GABONAISE curves along the lower periphery, flanked by small star ornaments. The date 1960 appears in the lower field beneath the portrait.

Reverse description The central field displays the full coat of arms of Gabon, featuring a quartered shield supported by two black panthers rampant; the upper quarters bear three gold bezants on black, and the lower quarters depict a sailing ship on waves. Above the shield is an okoumé tree flanked by sprigs of foliage, and below it a scroll bearing the motto UNION TRAVAIL. The circumscription REPUBLIQUE GABONAISE arcs across the upper rim, with INDEPENDANCE 17 AOUT 1960 distributed around the lower field, and the denomination 50 Fr. inscribed at the bottom of the field beneath the shield.
