| 表面の銘文 | REPUBLIKA Y' UBURUNDI UBUMWE - IBIKORWA - ITERAMBERE UNITÉ - TRAVAIL - PROGRÈS * 2020 * 50 FRANCS |
| 裏面の説明 | The reverse depicts a detailed scene from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale 'Hans im Glück' (Hans in Luck), featuring the protagonist Hans standing at right, dressed in peasant attire and carrying a bindle over his shoulder while holding a goose. Surrounding a central stone well are a horse, a cow, and a pig, representing the series of trades Hans makes throughout the story. Four-leaf clovers are scattered decoratively around the left and lower border of the field, symbolizing luck. The legend HANS IM GLÜCK arcs across the upper field, while the inscription 1/100 OZ .9999 FINEST GOLD appears along the lower arc, confirming the coin's gold content and purity. |

The "Hans in Luck" series draws from the Brothers Grimm tale first published in their 1819 collection — a story about a man who progressively trades down from a lump of gold to nothing, and considers himself fortunate throughout. The irony of anchoring that narrative to a gold coin is presumably intentional. Burundi has issued numerous small-format gold pieces through European minting intermediaries, with the Bank of the Republic lending its name to products aimed squarely at the collector market rather than domestic circulation.
