Obverse description The central field displays the large numeral denomination '50' in bold relief, with the word 'FRANCS' inscribed below. The circular legend 'BANQUE CENTRALE DU MALI' runs along the upper periphery, flanked by decorative geometric symbols — triangular and diamond-shaped ornaments — at the cardinal points of the inner border. The date appears in the lower exergual area, and the entire design is framed by an ornate serrated inner border composed of repeating chevron and lozenge motifs engraved by Raymond Joly.

Reverse description The reverse features a finely detailed botanical depiction of a sorghum plant rendered in high relief, with multiple heavy grain-laden panicles drooping gracefully from slender stems that fill the central field. The engraver's signature 'L.FOURBÉ' appears in small letters at the base of the design. The circular legend 'NOURRITURE POUR TOUS', referencing the FAO's mandate of food for all, runs along the periphery and is separated from the inner field by the same decorative serrated border of chevrons and lozenges as seen on the obverse.
