| 裏面の説明 | The reverse bears a right-facing bare-headed portrait bust of President Félix Houphouët-Boigny occupying the central field, engraved with fine detail including characteristic facial scarification marks on the cheek. The circular legend 'PRESIDENT FELIX HOUPHOUET BOIGNY' arcs around the upper and lateral periphery, while the date '1966' is positioned at the lower center between two small five-pointed stars. The deeply mirrored proof fields and finely frosted devices are characteristic of Paris Mint workmanship. |

This coin was struck to honor Félix Houphouët-Boigny in the year following Ivory Coast's first decade of independence, issued at a moment when the country was riding an economic boom fueled by cocoa and coffee exports that briefly made it one of the wealthiest nations in sub-Saharan Africa. Gold commemoratives of this type were produced in very limited quantities — intended for collectors and diplomatic gift-giving rather than circulation — through the Paris Mint under the standard French overseas territory arrangement that continued well after political independence.
Houphouët-Boigny remained in power until his death in 1993, the longest-serving head of state in Africa at the time.
