| Obverse description | Multicolour intaglio print with a central vignette of Pierre Belain d'Esnambuc, the French coloniser of Martinique, shown in three-quarter portrait at left wearing a plumed hat and period costume. A tall-masted sailing ship occupies the upper right in an ocean vignette. The word MARTINIQUE is repeated vertically in the side borders, and the denomination CINQUANTE FRANCS is inscribed in large lettering at centre top, with the issuing authority CAISSE CENTRALE DE LA FRANCE D'OUTRE-MER above.
