Obverse description Highly stylized, cubist-inspired effigy of King Baudouin I facing left, rendered in bold geometric faceted planes that fragment the portrait into angular, intersecting surfaces. The design fills the entire coin field, with the king's facial features — including his eye, nose, and ear — depicted in a strongly modernist, abstract manner. The engraver's initials 'J.P.L.' appear incuse at the bottom of the design, attributing the work to Jean-Paul Laenen. No legend appears on the obverse; the portrait alone dominates the field within a plain raised rim.
