The 1958 Brussels World's Fair — officially Expo 58 — was the first major international exposition held after World War II, and Belgium seized the occasion to produce paired commemorative issues in French and Dutch, reflecting the country's linguistic divide. The Dutch-text version, this piece, was struck for the Flemish-speaking market alongside its French counterpart KM#150. Both share identical specifications but were distributed through separate channels and carry distinct collector premiums depending on the regional preference of the buyer.
The Atomium, constructed as the fair's centerpiece, still stands in Laeken today — a detail that makes Expo 58 unusual among world's fairs, most of which demolished their signature structures.
