Allied Military Currency for France was produced in the United States ahead of the Normandy landings and introduced alongside the liberation forces in June 1944. De Gaulle's Provisional Government furiously rejected these notes, refusing to recognize them as legitimate tender and insisting they amounted to a foreign occupation currency — an argument that carried real political weight given that the U.S. Treasury had designed and printed them without French involvement.
Forbes Lithograph in Boston handled the physical production. The francs-denominated AMC series was ultimately withdrawn after France asserted control over its own monetary affairs later in 1944, limiting the window of actual circulation to a matter of months.
