The Bank of Central African States — known by its French acronym BEAC — issues coinage for six member nations simultaneously: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon. A single coin circulates across all six, each with its own economic pressures and political instabilities, none of which the currency union is structurally equipped to absorb independently. The CFA franc zone's exchange rate has been pegged to the euro at 655.957 francs since 1999, inherited from the earlier fixed peg to the French franc.
