Obverse description Purple on multicolour underprint, with a guilloche-enriched background. An intaglio portrait vignette of President Modibo Keita occupies the right portion of the face, while a vignette of the Markala dam on the Niger River is rendered at left. Denomination text and issuer legend appear across the upper and lower registers.

Reverse description Purple on pale underprint. The central vignette presents an intaglio view of the Djinguereber Mosque in Timbuktu, its characteristic mud-brick minaret and surrounding structures extending across the composition. A Tuareg woman in traditional dress and ornate jewellery stands in the right foreground, with denomination numerals at each corner and guilloche rosettes flanking a geometric diamond motif on the left border.
