| Opmerkingen |
The Banque de l'Algérie et de la Tunisie was a dual-territory institution — unusual in French colonial banking, which more commonly issued separate note series for each territory. This 50 Francs belongs to a postwar reissue period when the bank was attempting to stabilize circulation across both Algeria and Tunisia following the disruptions of the German occupation and the North African campaign.
Mohamed Salah Khamassi was a Tunisian artist — his involvement in designing notes for this issuer is worth noting, given how rarely indigenous designers were commissioned for colonial currency work in this period. The Banque de France printed the series, as it did for most French overseas currency of this type.
