The Kantonalbank Schwyz was one of the smaller Swiss cantonal banks issuing private currency under the note-issuing regime that predated the Swiss National Bank's monopoly, established in 1907. This series runs right up to that transition — the bank would have surrendered its issuing rights when the SNB took over, making these among the last notes the institution ever produced.
Bradbury Wilkinson handled an enormous volume of Swiss cantonal and private bank work during this period, and the Storck-Walch design credit is worth noting: Joseph Storck was a Vienna-based professor of decorative arts whose design work appeared across several central European printing commissions in the late nineteenth century, an unusual choice for a small inland Swiss canton.
