Obverse description The Hungarian coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the traditional shield divided into two halves: the dexter side bearing horizontal red and white stripes, and the sinister side featuring the apostolic double cross rising from a green mount above a blue base. The shield is surmounted by the Holy Crown of Saint Stephen, rendered in fine detail with its characteristic crooked cross finial. A continuous legend around the outer border reads MAGYAR KÖZTÁRSASÁG, with the secondary inscription AZ EURÓPAI UNIÓ TAGJA arcing through the inner border. The date 2004 appears at the base of the inner field, flanked by a semicircular arrangement of twelve five-pointed stars referencing the European Union flag, all within a beaded border.

Reverse description The reverse displays the bold numeral '50' in large stylized figures dominating the central field, with the '5' and '0' overlapping in a graphic typographic design. Below the numeral, a horizontal rule separates it from the denomination legend FORINT inscribed in capitals across the lower field. The Budapest mint mark 'BP.' appears in the exergue beneath the denomination. The entire design is contained within a beaded border running along the coin's rim.
