Opmerkingen

This note was issued by the Székesfehérvári Légszeszgyár és Vegyiművek Rt. — a gas works and chemical manufacturing company in Székesfehérvár — during the acute small-change crisis that gripped Hungary in 1919. The collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monetary system after the First World War left municipal and commercial institutions scrambling to fill the void left by vanishing coins and unreliable central supply. Industrial firms, cooperatives, and local authorities across Hungary issued their own szükségpénz, or emergency necessity money, to keep wages paid and transactions moving on factory floors.

The Adamo MSZK corpus documents dozens of such corporate issuers from this period, but gas utility companies are among the less commonly encountered categories within it.
