Obverse description A bare-chested blacksmith is depicted in dynamic seated pose, resting upon an anvil and holding a hammer, rendered in bold socialist-realist style. The circular legend MAGYAR · NÉPKÖZTÁRSASÁG (Hungarian People's Republic) arcs around the periphery of the field. The date appears in the lower exergual area beneath the central figure. The composition conveys the ideological emphasis on industrial labour characteristic of Hungarian coinage of the communist era.
