Amatőrök Forgalmi Szövetkezete — the Amateurs' Trading Cooperative — was one of dozens of Budapest-based commercial associations that issued their own small-denomination scrip during the acute coin shortage that gripped Hungary in 1919–1920. The collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monetary system after the First World War, combined with postwar inflation and the disruption of the Treaty of Trianon period, made small metal coinage effectively disappear from everyday commerce. Cooperatives, merchants, and municipal bodies filled the gap with paper substitutes redeemable only within their own networks.
The Adamo MSZK cataloguing places this firmly within the broader Hungarian szükségpénz (emergency money) classification rather than any formal banking series.
