Beschrijving voorzijde Central field features four large Chinese ideograms arranged in a cruciform pattern, read top to bottom and right to left, flanked by Manchu script characters at centre. The design is enclosed by a surrounding border of additional Chinese ideograms forming the mint and denomination legend. The inscription identifies the issuing province of Yunnan, the reign title Guangxu, and the denomination expressed in traditional weight units of mace and candareens.

Beschrijving keerzijde A sinuous Chinese imperial dragon with detailed scale work occupies the central field, depicted facing forward with its body coiling around a flaming pearl at centre. The dragon's head is shown frontally with prominent horns, whiskers, and an open mouth. Two rosette ornaments, each composed of multiple small circles, are positioned symmetrically in the left and right fields flanking the dragon. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, itself surrounded by a plain outer border with a reeded rim. The number and arrangement of circles beneath the pearl and around the central rosette dot serve as the primary variety-distinguishing features across the Y#257 series.
