| Additional information |
Van Cleef & Arpels was founded in Paris in 1906 by Alfred Van Cleef and his father-in-law Salomon Arpels, and the house is particularly credited with inventing the Mystery Set — a proprietary mounting technique patented in 1933 that conceals all metal settings beneath the stone surface. The Monnaie de Paris has issued a recurring series of high-relief collector pieces in collaboration with luxury houses, and this issue falls within that program rather than any circulating monetary context.
At 163.8 grams of .950 silver, the coin contains more fine silver than a standard American Silver Eagle contains total metal.
