Additional information

Tina Blau (1845–1916) was one of the leading figures of the Vienna Plein Air movement, trained partly under Emil Jakob Schindler, and long excluded from the Viennese art establishment's inner circles on account of her sex. The Austrian Mint's ongoing "Klimt and His Women" gold series — of which this piece is part — has quietly evolved to commemorate the broader Secession-era circle rather than Klimt alone.
