Issued to mark the centenary of Lithuanian statehood, this piece commemorates the signatories of the Act of Independence of February 16, 1918 — the twenty men who signed the declaration restoring Lithuania as a sovereign state after over a century of Russian imperial rule. The signing took place in Vilnius under German military occupation, making the act an audacious political gamble rather than a negotiated transfer of power.
Struck in .999 gold at 7.78 g, the issue follows the tight specification of the Lithuanian collector gold series managed through this period by the Bank of Lithuania in cooperation with foreign mints.
