Issued to mark the 450th anniversary of Bruegel's death, this coin belongs to Belgium's ongoing gold artist series — one of the few national programs that has managed consistent collector demand across decades of issues. Bruegel died in Brussels in 1569, having spent his most productive years there after training in Antwerp and travelling through Italy, though Italian Renaissance conventions left surprisingly little mark on his work.
The 6.22g specification places it in the quarter-ounce class, a deliberate commercial choice that keeps the gold content accessible without tipping into commemorative-medal territory.
