| 背面描述 | The reverse bears a detailed portrait of Albert Einstein facing slightly to the left, rendered in high relief against a field filled with mathematical and physical formulae. The mass-energy equivalence equation 'E=mc²' is prominently accentuated among the surrounding inscriptions. The legend 'ALBERT EINSTEIN' appears in the field, identifying the subject of the commemorative design. |

Issued to mark the centenary of Einstein's general theory of relativity, first published in November 1915. The Belgian connection is genuine: Einstein held a position at the University of Leuven and had ties to the country going back to the 1920s, eventually taking refuge near De Haan on the Flemish coast in 1933 after fleeing Nazi Germany — reportedly with a bodyguard arranged by Belgian authorities who feared for his safety.
Struck to .999 fineness rather than the more common .900 gold used in earlier Belgian commemorative issues.
