Obverse description Conjoined busts of King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía facing one another in opposing profile, their effigies superimposed at center in high relief against a mirror-polished field. A beaded border runs along the inner rim. The circumferential legend reads '· PRIMER ANIVERSARIO EURO · JUAN CARLOS I Y SOFÍA · 2003', distributed across the upper and lower portions of the coin respectively, commemorating the first anniversary of Spain's adoption of the Euro.
