背面描述 Half-length armoured effigy of Emperor Charles V (Carolus) facing three-quarters to the left, crowned and wearing plate armour, holding an upright sword in his right hand and an orb surmounted by a patriarchal cross in his left hand. The figure is set within an inner beaded border, evoking the style of sixteenth-century Low Countries coinage. The circumferential Latin legend 'KAROLUS D:G ROMANOR IMP Z HISPAR REX' (Charles, by the Grace of God, Emperor of the Romans and King of Spain) runs around the outer field, separated by star stops.

附加信息

The Carolus guilder — the carolus d'or — was introduced under Charles V in the 1520s as part of a broader effort to standardize coinage across the Habsburg Netherlands. It became one of the most widely circulated trade coins of the sixteenth century, moving through Antwerp's bourse at the height of that city's dominance as the commercial capital of northern Europe. Belgium's 2021 commemorative revisits that lineage directly, not as a generic historical nod but because the original coin was itself struck at mints operating within what is now Belgian territory.

The KM# 389 issue is part of the NBB's ongoing "Golden Coins of Belgium" program, which selects historically significant monetary types for reinterpretation in modern bullion-grade gold.
