| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse presents a high-relief sculptural interpretation of Johannes Vermeer's celebrated painting 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' (c. 1665), depicting a young woman in three-quarter bust facing left, wearing a blue and yellow turban and a distinctive teardrop pearl earring. The figure is rendered with exceptional three-dimensional depth against a mirror-polished field, enclosed within an elaborately chased ornamental frame evoking a gilded picture frame. A circular privy mark inscribed 'CHEFS D'ŒUVRE DES MUSÉES' with a star motif appears in the upper left of the field. Legends along the frame read 'LA JEUNE FILLE À LA PERLE - J. VERMEER', '2021', and 'LEGAAT A. A. DES TOMBE', referencing the bequest through which the original painting entered the Mauritshuis collection. |

Part of the Monnaie de Paris "Masterpieces of Museums" series, this issue was produced in collaboration with the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague, which has held Vermeer's painting since 1902. France minting a Dutch masterpiece is less paradoxical than it sounds — the series has always been about institutional partnerships rather than national patrimony.
Vermeer completed the painting around 1665, though it was auctioned in The Hague in 1881 for just two guilders and twelve cents before its eventual rehabilitation as one of the most recognized works in Northern European art.
