Part of the Bank of Greece's ongoing Archaeological Sites series, this miniature gold issue commemorates the sanctuary of Asclepius at Epidaurus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose ancient theatre remains one of the best-preserved in the Greek world. The sanctuary functioned for centuries as a major healing center, drawing pilgrims from across the Mediterranean who submitted to ritual incubation — sleeping within the temple precinct in hope of curative dreams.
