Obverse description The state coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino occupies the central field, depicting a heart-shaped shield charged with three towers set upon green hills, surmounted by a mural crown and flanked by an olive branch to the left and an oak branch to the right, tied at the base by a ribbon bearing the motto LIBERTAS. The circular legend REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 2011 appears in the lower field. The engraver's signature BINO BINI is inscribed near the lower right rim.

Additional information

San Marino issues gold commemoratives under a treaty arrangement with Italy, which handles the republic's monetary affairs — meaning these coins are legal tender but effectively produced as collector pieces from the outset, with mintages set low enough to guarantee they never circulate. The 2011 issue falls within a long-running series celebrating the republic's medieval fortifications, which have been continuously inhabited and defended since the 13th century.

Friedberg 117 confirms this as a post-2001 euro-era issue struck at the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato in Rome.
