Aanvullende informatie

The Temple of Apollo Epikourios at Bassae, built in the late 5th century BC and attributed to Iktinos — one of the Parthenon's architects — was already a ruin by the time the British removed its sculptural frieze to London in 1812, where it remains in the British Museum. Greece designated the temple a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986, the first individual monument in Greece to receive that status, and since the 1980s the entire structure has been sheltered under a tent due to accelerating deterioration from frost and seismic activity.
