| Description du revers | A three-quarter-length portrait of the Flemish humanist scholar Justus Lipsius (Juste Lipse) dominates the field, depicted after a period engraving attributed to Van Dyck. He is shown wearing an elaborate ruff collar and richly detailed period costume, his right hand resting upon an open book in the lower field, conveying his identity as a man of letters. The legend 'JVSTVS LIPSIVS' is inscribed in the upper right field in period-style lettering, flanked by an ornate foliate cartouche device. The birth and death years '1547' and '1606' appear below the cartouche. A fine dotted inner border encircles the entire design. |
