Reverse description The allegorical figure of Hibernia, representing Ireland, is depicted at the centre of the reverse field in a richly detailed composition commemorating the centenary of the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic. Surrounding and integrated within the design are key words and phrases drawn directly from the text of the Proclamation, including references to nationhood, civil and religious liberty, equal rights, and sovereignty. The denomination '50 EURO' appears prominently within the legend. The overall design, executed by Michael Guilfoyle, conveys the historic and political significance of the Easter Rising and the founding document of the Irish Republic.
