The Isle of Wight has no formal monetary authority and these pieces were struck by Pobjoy Mint as fantasy or local issues — not legal tender in any jurisdiction. Pobjoy produced similar "Euro cent" fantasy coinage for various British localities in the late 1990s, anticipating a UK adoption of the euro that never came.
