Switzerland has never been a member of the European Union, and there was never a serious political path to Swiss euro adoption in 2005. Trial or pattern euro-denomination pieces attributed to Switzerland were produced speculatively — typically by private mints or medal manufacturers testing planchet stock and die tolerances — rather than by the Swiss Mint under any official mandate. The Swissmint in Bern has no record of an authorized euro cent trial series from this period.
