| Opmerkingen |
Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. produced this note for the Banco Nacional Ultramarino at a moment when Portuguese colonial finance was under considerable strain — postwar reconstruction across the empire demanded liquidity, and Mozambique in particular was absorbing significant infrastructure expenditure. The BNU served as the note-issuing authority across multiple overseas territories simultaneously, meaning the same printed sheets, differentiated only by overprint or signature combination, might circulate in vastly different economic conditions.
Two distinct signature combinations are recorded for P#34, suggesting the note straddled at least one administrative transition at the bank's directorate level. Vieira Machado had served as Colonial Minister before his banking role — unusual career crossover for a signatory.
