Corisco is a small island off the coast of Equatorial Guinea with a history shaped more by Portuguese and later Spanish colonial administration than by the mainland Fang-dominated politics that define the modern state. The 2013 issue bearing its name belongs to a broader pattern of Equatorial Guinean collector-oriented coinage produced in recent decades — pieces struck in limited numbers with regional and historical themes that see virtually no domestic circulation.
