Obverse description Right-facing armored and draped effigy of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, wearing an imperial crown, his bust elaborately cuirassed and mantled. The circular Latin legend surrounding the portrait identifies him by his principal titles: Emperor of the Romans, King of Spain, Duke of Burgundy, and Count of Flanders. The portrait is rendered in a Renaissance medallic style befitting the historical subject.
