Obverse description The obverse displays the official seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands rendered in high relief at center, depicting a frigate bird with outstretched wings over a traditional Marshallese stick chart navigation device, surrounded by emblematic vignettes of island life including a palm tree, a sailboat, a sun, and local produce. The seal is encircled by a decorative chain border. The legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS arcs along the upper periphery, while the Marshallese national motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN curves along the lower border. The date 1991 and the denomination $50 appear to the sides of the central device.
