The Marshall Islands had no historical connection to the European air war whatsoever; this coin is one of dozens of WWII commemoratives the republic issued throughout the early 1990s under a licensing arrangement that effectively turned the nation's mint authority into a revenue stream for foreign distributors targeting the collector market.
