Additional information

Namibia issued this piece under a licensing arrangement with FIFA, one of dozens of small-denomination gold issues produced by African and Caribbean nations in the lead-up to the 2010 tournament — most with negligible circulation and bullion value that dwarfs face value many times over. Soccer City, the Johannesburg venue named on this coin, was originally built in 1987 and substantially rebuilt for the tournament at a cost exceeding $450 million, ultimately hosting both the opening match and the final between Spain and the Netherlands.
