The "Small numeral" designation distinguishes this from an earlier plate variant where the denomination figures at lower right were rendered at a noticeably larger size — a running change rather than a new issue, which is why the two types share the same Pick number and are often conflated in general collections.
De La Rue had held the Barbados contract continuously since the island's first Central Bank issues in 1973, and the consistency of that relationship shows in the printing quality across the series.
