Beschrijving keerzijde A highly detailed forward-facing portrait bust of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, occupies the centre of the reverse field, rendered in high relief with fine detail to his facial features, hair, suit jacket, and necktie. The curved legend XXXV U.S. PRESIDENT · JOHN F. KENNEDY arches around the upper periphery. The dates 1961 and 1963, denoting the years of his presidency, are positioned to the left and right of the portrait respectively. The denomination $50 appears in a cartouche at the base of the portrait. The deeply mirrored proof fields provide strong contrast against the frosted devices.

Aanvullende informatie

Liberia's early 2000s gold issues, including this piece, were produced almost entirely for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation — a practice that drew scrutiny from the IMF, as the face values assigned bore no meaningful relationship to Liberia's actual monetary supply or GDP at the time. The country was in the grip of Charles Taylor's government, under international sanctions, and the revenue from these collector coins was one of the few hard-currency streams available to the regime.

KM# 607 is part of a sprawling series of Kennedy commemoratives issued across multiple years and formats by Liberia, with production contracted to foreign minting facilities.
